Escalating cross-border attacks between Houthi rebels and Saudi-led coalition
On Monday evening, airports in Jazan and Najran, Saudi Arabia, were targeted in attacks that left three people injured and caused limited structural damage. Following these strikes, Houthi rebels launched further assaults early Wednesday against Aden International Airport in Yemen using ballistic missiles and drones. One missile struck near the runway shortly before a flight from Cairo was scheduled to arrive, prompting authorities to divert the plane to Jeddah and move other aircraft to safety. Simultaneously, the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting a Houthi ballistic missile north of Riyadh and announced plans to destroy the launch platform located in Houthi-controlled Sanaa.
These hostilities occur amidst an intensified military campaign as Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces attempt to reclaim territory from the rebels. The Houthis have retaliated with systematic strikes against airports, oil facilities, and military infrastructure within Saudi Arabia. While the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation is assessing damage to its facilities, the Saudi-led coalition remains engaged in tracking and neutralizing launch platforms to protect civil aviation and kingdom security. Both sides continue to signal a hardened stance, with regional fighting spreading across multiple fronts in Yemen and the border region.
