Cyprus U21 national team concludes Euro qualifiers with victory over San Marino
The Cyprus U21 national football team concluded its 2026 European Championship qualifying campaign on October 6 with a 2-0 victory against San Marino at the AEK Arena. This result marked the team's second win in the tournament, leaving them in fifth place in Group 1 with six points total.
Constantinos Poursaitidis opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a clinical finish, while Kyriakos Kyriakou secured the final result with a close-range goal in the 81st minute. Under the guidance of coach Marios Nikolaou, the team utilized the final matches of the group stage to provide playing time to younger players who will remain eligible for the next cycle of international competitions.
Reflecting on the campaign, Nikolaou noted that the final three matches were treated as preparation for the future due to the team's standing in the group. The focus has now shifted toward the upcoming cycle. The federation has announced that the team will play two friendly matches in Cyprus this November to further evaluate talent and build the squad for the next tournament.
