Cyprus launches 2026-2027 seasonal flu vaccination program
Cyprus has initiated its vaccination program for the 2026-2027 winter season, focusing initially on individuals aged 60 and older. The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) has instructed personal doctors to submit their orders for the Efluelda vaccine between October 6 and October 8. Doctors are permitted to order a maximum of 150 doses per order to ensure availability for their registered patients under the General Health System (GHS).
According to the Ministry of Health, the Efluelda vaccine is currently the only one available and is strictly reserved for those aged 60 and older. Patients within this age group are advised to contact their personal doctors directly to schedule an appointment for their vaccination. Citizens are not required to purchase or procure the vaccine themselves, as all supplies are managed through the personal doctors who provide the service. The distribution process is being handled by a private company contracted by the Ministry of Health. While the goal is to begin vaccinations within the first ten days of October, the exact timing for each clinic depends on the arrival of their specific orders. Guidelines regarding the vaccination of children and individuals under 60 are expected to be addressed in subsequent announcements by the Ministry of Health.
