Three Paphos municipalities awarded at the Cyprus Environmental Awards
Three municipalities in the Paphos region—Paphos, Ierokipia, and Polis Chrysochous—received the 'Green City of Cyprus' title at the 2025 Cyprus Environmental Awards. The awards, organized by the Cyprus Center for Environmental Research and Education, recognize local authorities for their contributions to sustainable development and environmental protection.
The Municipality of Paphos was honored in the Water Resources Management category for establishing an autonomous borehole irrigation network for urban green spaces. The Municipality of Ierokipia received two distinctions: one for Water Resources Management, specifically for using recycled sewage water to maintain greenery during drought periods, and another for Green Areas and Urban Biodiversity due to initiatives to enhance local flora. The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous was recognized for its ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness among citizens.
The Paphos Regional Tourism Board (ETAP) officially congratulated the three municipalities, stating that these awards serve as tangible proof of the local authorities' commitment to a green transition. The recognitions highlight the strategic shift toward modern environmental infrastructure and sustainable urban planning across the Paphos region.
