Harris Georgiades comments on DISY leadership and upcoming presidential elections
On October 7, 2026, former Finance Minister Harris Georgiades addressed internal tensions within the Democratic Rally (DISY) party during an appearance on ANT1. Responding to allegations from Giorgos Pamboridis, who accused Averof Neofytou and Nikos Christodoulidis of unfair political maneuvering, Georgiades admitted it was a mistake to request a transfer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the past—a request he retracted within 24 hours. He emphasized that personal grievances and resentment have no place in politics and that the party must move forward.
Georgiades stressed that the party’s success in the upcoming presidential elections depends on DISY operating in a unified and organized manner rather than focusing on specific individuals. He explicitly stated that the political proposals of AKEL are unconvincing and noted that the electoral base supporting President Christodoulidis has shrunk, with parties such as DIKO, DIPA, and EDEK combined not exceeding 16% in support. Regarding the potential candidacy for the party nomination involving Annita Demetriou and Giorgos Pamboridis, as well as uncertainty surrounding Averof Neofytou, Georgiades urged the party to manage these issues through internal democratic processes to ensure a united front.
