Al-Qassam Brigades release final footage of Yahya Sinwar
On October 7, 2026, the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, released previously unpublished footage of their former leader, Yahya Sinwar, recorded shortly before his death in October 2024. The release coincides with the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attacks on southern Israel, which Sinwar is widely considered to have orchestrated.
The raw, uncensored footage was reportedly filmed in the Tel al-Sultan area of Rafah. In the video, Sinwar is seen alongside Mahmoud Hamdan, the commander of the Tel al-Sultan Battalion, and Anis al-Darbi, a company commander. The men are shown discussing strategies to counter Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. In several sequences, Sinwar appears wearing long headscarves or veils, which reports suggest were intended to help him move undetected in public areas.
Sinwar was killed in Rafah in October 2024 during an operation conducted by Israeli forces. The publication of this footage is framed by the group as a commemorative act on the anniversary of the 2023 incursion, serving as a reminder of the leadership's final movements and tactical planning during the conflict.
