MahallArt 26 festival returns to Larnaca neighborhoods
The Larnaka 2030 organization has officially launched the MahallArt 26 festival, a flagship initiative designed to celebrate the history and culture of the city's various neighborhoods. The program commences on October 8 in the Ais Yiannis area, running through October 10. The event features a diverse schedule, starting with a screening of Ken Loach's film 'The Old Oak' at Ais Yiannis Square on Thursday. Friday's activities include art walks, performances by the Ars Nova Choir Cyprus and dancer Sofia Kalli, and workshops led by Lyolya Filimonova and Ariana Zakou. Photography by Filippos Sotiriou and Artemisia Vasileiou will also be showcased.
Following the events in Ais Yiannis, the festival will continue its activities through November, covering other districts including Stavrodromi, Agioi Anargyroi, and Kiti-Pervolia. The program, which was announced at a press conference on October 7 by Larnaka 2030 leadership, including Dinos Lefkaritis and Andreas Karakatsanis, emphasizes a collaborative approach where cultural content is developed through direct dialogue with local residents. First introduced in 2023 in the Skala neighborhood, MahallArt aims to integrate community-driven artistic creation into the daily life of Larnaca. Further updates on subsequent neighborhood activities are expected to follow as the festival progresses.
