Vittorio Di Bucci appointed as the new Registrar of the Court of Justice of the European Union
On October 7, 2026, Italian lawyer Vittorio Di Bucci officially assumed the position of Registrar of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) during a ceremonial session at the institution's headquarters in Luxembourg. He succeeds Alfredo Calot Escobar, who had served in the role since October 6, 2010, and subsequently submitted his resignation.
The appointment follows a vote by the judges and advocates general of the Court on September 8, 2026. Di Bucci, who was born in 1963 in Asti, Italy, will serve a six-year term ending on October 7, 2032. His career at the Court began in 1987 as a linguistic lawyer, and he previously served as a legal secretary in the chambers of Judge G. Federico Mancini during the periods of 1988–1991 and 1994 onwards.
Di Bucci holds a law degree from the University of Turin, obtained in 1986, and a master's degree in Community law from the University of Nancy II in France, completed in 1988. His extensive experience within the EU legal framework is considered foundational for his new responsibilities as the head of the Court's administrative and judicial registry.
