Limassol municipality receives top environmental award
On October 5, 2026, the Municipality of Limassol was honored with the prestigious 'Golden Agrino' award during the 'Green Cities & Green Communities of Cyprus 2025' ceremony. The event was held at the Presidential Palace and the award was presented by President Nikos Christodoulides. In addition to the top honor, the municipality received two honorary plaques and a 'Green Flag' in recognition of its commitment to climate neutrality and sustainable urban planning.
The award specifically highlighted the project 'Limassol Moves Green,' implemented under the European metaCCAZE initiative. This program focuses on sustainable transport solutions, including on-demand minibuses accessible via the 'WeeDRIVE' mobile application and a shared electric bicycle network powered by 'NEXTBIKE.' These efforts aim to enhance mobility for teenagers and families, improve accessibility, and reduce overall dependence on private vehicles in the city. The recognition serves to validate the municipality's ongoing strategy of integrating innovative transport solutions into the daily lives of its citizens to foster a more sustainable urban environment.
