Donald Trump to award National Medal of Science to Elon Musk
United States President Donald Trump is set to present the National Medal of Science to Elon Musk today at a ceremony in Washington. This event confirms the reconciliation between the two figures following their public disagreement in 2025 regarding fiscal policy. Musk, who previously funded Trump’s presidential campaign and was tasked with cutting government spending, has recently seen his relationship with the administration stabilize, further underscored by his involvement in Pentagon weapons technology initiatives and artificial intelligence ethics.
Alongside Musk, the administration will honor other prominent technology leaders. Jensen Huang (Nvidia), Sergey Brin (Google), and Lisa Sue (AMD) are also recipients of the National Medal of Science. Furthermore, Michael Dell (Dell) and Satya Nadella (Microsoft) will be presented with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. White House spokesperson Liz Houston stated that the administration is grateful for the contributions of these leaders. The ceremony also carries personal significance for the President, as his uncle, physicist John G. Trump, received the National Medal of Science in 1983.
