Donald Trump reiterates claims to Nobel Peace Prize ahead of announcement
US President Donald Trump has again publicly stated that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, criticizing the Norwegian Nobel Committee ahead of the official announcement scheduled for Friday. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump remarked that the committee has a reputation for not awarding individuals like him, while asserting that his administration has successfully intervened to end eight conflicts since he took office in January 2025.
Trump’s claims have been supported by nominations from the leaders of Israel, Pakistan, and Cambodia. In January, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, a 2025 laureate, symbolically presented her Nobel medal to Trump, declaring that he deserved the honor more than anyone in history. Despite these assertions, reports note that ongoing conflicts, such as the war in Iran and unresolved instability in Ukraine, persist.
Other potential candidates for this year’s award include Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court, and Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur for the Palestinian territories. The Norwegian Nobel Committee is expected to reveal the winner this coming Friday.
