Police issue arrest warrant for 30-year-old man after shooting in Paphos city center
In the early hours of October 8, 2026, around 2:00 a.m., a shooting incident occurred near Kennedy Square in the center of Paphos. A man, later identified by police as 30-year-old Petros Kounnas, was reported to be walking in the area when he pulled out a handgun and fired a shot into the air. Witnesses at nearby restaurants and bars reportedly observed the suspect firing the weapon before discarding the pistol into a flowerbed and fleeing the scene.
Police arrived shortly after receiving the report and cordoned off the area to conduct a search. Officers successfully recovered the discarded pistol from the flowerbed and discovered a shell casing a short distance away. Following an investigation, the Paphos CID identified Kounnas, who is known to local authorities. An arrest warrant has been issued against him for illegal possession of a firearm and explosives.
Authorities have released his name and photograph to the public to assist in his apprehension. The investigation by the Paphos CID is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Paphos CID, the nearest police station, or the Citizen’s Line at 1460.
