Scott McTominay cleared to return for Napoli following heart surgery

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has been cleared to return to full training and competitive matches following a successful procedure to address a mild, benign heart arrhythmia. The 29-year-old Scotland international underwent a scheduled ablation procedure at the Spire Hospital in Manchester on September 8, 2026. Following a period of recovery and individual training, recent diagnostic tests confirmed he is fit to resume athletic activity with the first team under manager Massimiliano Allegri.

McTominay had been sidelined since August 30, missing several high-profile fixtures, including a 3-2 Serie A defeat to Inter and a Champions League match. The club officially announced his return to group sessions on Wednesday, October 7. The midfielder is now under consideration for selection in Napoli's upcoming Serie A fixture against Frosinone at the Diego Maradona Stadium this Saturday.
