Limassol concludes 2026 European Mobility Week
The Municipality of Limassol officially concluded the 2026 European Mobility Week, which took place from September 16 to 22. Centered on the theme "Mobility for All," the event aimed to promote safer, more accessible, and affordable transport options through activities including cycling events, workshops, and open discussions. The local initiative, titled "Limassol moves Lao-Lao," encouraged citizens to adopt a more relaxed pace of urban life.
The event culminated on Sunday, September 20, with Car-Free Day, where Gladstonos Street, between Pentadromos and the Karaiskaki junction, was closed to vehicle traffic to host community activities. During this day, the metaCCAZE project, alongside partners such as WeeDRIVE and nextbike Cyprus, showcased innovative transport solutions. Specifically, the WeeDRIVE service—a pilot project for teen transportation utilizing a digital booking system—was demonstrated to the public as a sustainable alternative to private vehicle use for daily family commutes.
These initiatives are part of a broader push to reduce dependence on personal cars and integrate digital, user-friendly transit systems into the city's infrastructure. While the week has concluded, the ongoing metaCCAZE project continues to develop and monitor these sustainable transport pilots within Limassol to evaluate their long-term viability for the urban population.
