Zsófia Törőcsik sets new free immersion world record at 2026 depth championships
At the World Apnea 2026 Depth Championships in Limassol, Hungarian freediver Zsófia Törőcsik secured the world record and the championship title in the Free Immersion (FIM) category. On October 6, Törőcsik successfully completed a 108-metre dive in four minutes, which remains pending official ratification. She successfully presented her tag to judges following the completion of her surface protocol. Ukrainian athlete Nataliia Zharkova claimed the silver medal with a 103-metre dive.
The final day of the women's competition featured several additional national records. Jade MacDonald-Razvi set an Australian record at 88 metres, while Maria Sitti (Cyprus), Silviya Rashkova (Bulgaria), Noor Issa (Lebanon), and Maha Alkuwari (Qatar) also established new national benchmarks at 66m, 63m, 60m, and 47m respectively. These results are currently pending official certification by AIDA International, the governing body under whose rules the event was held.
The competition concluded with high drama as the overall championship title was decided only after the final series of dives. Although Törőcsik attempted a 115m dive on Wednesday, she turned early at 108m, incurring negative points for that specific performance. The event highlighted the rapid progression of the sport, as the FIM world record has now been broken five times throughout 2026.
