Attempted murder investigation follows construction site stabbing in Limassol
On the morning of Thursday, October 8, 2026, a 44-year-old foreign national was seriously injured during a violent altercation at a construction site in the Mouttayiaka area of Limassol. According to the Limassol CID, the victim and his 47-year-old colleague, both identified as Georgian nationals, were involved in a heated argument. The 47-year-old suspect allegedly used a construction cutting tool—identified in some reports as a drywall knife—to stab the victim in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.
The victim was transported to a private clinic in Limassol, where he underwent emergency surgery. Medical personnel confirmed that he is out of immediate danger and remains in stable condition. Following the incident, the Cyprus Police launched a search for the suspect, whose identity was publicly released as Mamuka Matitaishvili.
On the morning of Friday, October 9, the 47-year-old suspect surrendered to the Limassol Police Directorate. During preliminary questioning, he claimed that he acted in self-defense, alleging that the victim initiated the physical confrontation. The police have recovered the weapon used in the attack and are continuing their investigation, which includes taking formal statements from both parties to clarify the circumstances behind the assault.
