Italy and Cyprus hold maritime business forum in Limassol
On Friday, October 9, 2026, the Italy-Cyprus Maritime Business Forum took place at the DP World Cruise Terminal in Limassol. Organized by the Italian Embassy in Nicosia in partnership with various commercial and investment entities, the event aimed to foster cooperation between the two nations in shipping, port development, and maritime infrastructure. The forum brought together government officials, shipowners, and industry leaders to discuss sustainable port management, fleet compliance with EU green transition rules, and strategic maritime corridors.
Italian Ambassador Antonella Cavallari highlighted that Cyprus serves as a global hub for ship management, while Italy maintains strong capabilities in shipbuilding, logistics, and marine technology. The initiative seeks to translate these complementary strengths into concrete business projects. According to official data presented, the shipping industry contributes approximately 7 per cent to Cyprus’s GDP, a figure that rises to 25 per cent when including the broader blue economy, such as tourism and fisheries. The discussions also addressed the impact of current geopolitical tensions on global trade routes and the importance of technological innovation in maintaining sector competitiveness.
