Cyprus inflation rises to 3.7 percent in September 2026
Inflation in Cyprus climbed to 3.7 percent in September 2026, up from 3.5 percent the previous month, according to data released by the Statistical Service. The Consumer Price Index rose by 0.76 points to 104.01 points compared to 103.25 in August, reflecting an increase of 0.74 percent month-on-month.
The annual surge in prices is largely driven by a sharp 25.8 percent increase in the cost of petroleum products. Other significant annual price hikes include transportation at 11.9 percent, electricity and water at 11.2 percent, and housing at 9.6 percent. Conversely, the sectors of clothing and footwear experienced a notable annual decline of 10.8 percent, while industrial products saw a 1.1 percent decrease. On a monthly basis, the electricity and water category recorded the highest increase of 5.9 percent, while services saw a slight decline of 0.4 percent.
This rise in inflation follows a trend of increasing energy costs affecting household expenditures across the board. The current data illustrates the ongoing pressure on consumer purchasing power, particularly regarding fuel, utilities, and housing maintenance costs, which continue to dominate the expenditure increases within the national economy.
