Cyprus transitions to DVB-T2 digital television technology
Starting October 10, 2026, private television channels in Cyprus will transition exclusively to the DVB-T2 digital broadcasting standard. This move follows a summer delay and aims to rectify previous technical issues by adopting a more gradual implementation process. Viewers are required to perform a channel rescan on their receivers to maintain service. To facilitate this, Hellas SAT has provided online resources, including a compatibility tool on the Alpha Cyprus website, to assist users with the technical migration.
Petros Theocharidis, a representative from Hellas SAT, emphasized that this rollout will be gradual rather than an immediate switch-off, with the goal of achieving a complete transition by the Christmas holidays. While many households and businesses have already successfully tuned their equipment during the recent three-month grace period, a significant portion of the population has yet to update their settings. The technical requirements for reception quality, such as antenna standards, have been adjusted to ensure a smoother experience, and Hellas SAT is conducting professional training to support the industry through this change.
