Olympiacos coach Georgios Bartzokas cleared of misconduct charges by EuroLeague
The EuroLeague sports judge has officially acquitted Olympiacos head coach Georgios Bartzokas following a complaint filed by Panathinaikos regarding an incident after the match against Virtus Bologna on October 1. Video evidence confirmed that the Virtus players approached the coach, and the Italian club testified in his favor, leading to his complete clearance of all charges.
Simultaneously, tensions between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos have escalated, with the Piraeus club reporting that they have received four separate complaints within a few days. These include allegations regarding an Iraklis-Olympiacos game, a prior incident in Dubai, and a dispute involving Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos. Panathinaikos is seeking a two-point deduction against Olympiacos, arguing that the club violated ESAKE regulations by initiating legal proceedings in a civilian court concerning Giannakopoulos’s alleged unauthorized entry onto the court during last season's finals.
Bartzokas maintained that the Bologna incident was a misunderstanding during the opposing team's celebration, noting that he was pushed and instinctively pushed back. The legal disputes between the two Greek clubs continue to unfold as they navigate these multiple administrative and disciplinary processes.
