Fire incidents across Nicosia and Paphos districts
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, multiple fire incidents were reported across Cyprus. In Lakatamia, Nicosia, a basement residence caught fire at 08:05. The resident was absent, but the property sustained extensive damage, with heat and smoke affecting the ground and first floors. Emergency services used breathing apparatus and water hoses to extinguish the blaze. Investigation into the cause is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Paphos district experienced a series of brush fires in the afternoon. A fire near Tremithousa burned three decares of wild vegetation between 14:55 and 15:55. It was tackled by four fire trucks from the Department of Forests, four from the Fire Service, and one from the Game Service, supported by aerial assets and a bulldozer. Other minor fires occurred in illegal dumpsites in Peristerona and near a road in Fyti, all of which were successfully brought under control. Additionally, Paphos authorities responded to a restaurant fire caused by a forgotten cooking utensil and a gas leak at a bakery on Friday and Saturday respectively.
