Recent fire incidents across Cyprus
Between October 8 and 10, 2026, the Cyprus Fire Service responded to several fire incidents. On October 8, a fire broke out in a warehouse within the Free Trade Zone of Larnaca. Four fire engines extinguished the blaze by 19:06, which caused extensive damage to an excavator and impacted two warehouses containing animal feed. No injuries were reported as the premises were closed at the time.
In the Nicosia district, two separate residential fires occurred. On Friday, October 9, a fire started from a mattress in an auxiliary residence in Temvria; firefighters extinguished it, and authorities ruled out malicious activity. On Saturday, October 10, a basement apartment in Lakatamia sustained extensive damage from a fire that also affected the ground and first floors of the building. In both cases, no occupants were present, and investigations into the causes remain ongoing.
Additionally, on October 9, a wildfire consumed one hectare of dry grass and wild vegetation between the communities of Choletria and Fasoula in the Paphos district. The fire was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of the Fire Service, the Forestry Department, and a bulldozer operator.
