Cyprus police conduct nationwide anti-crime and traffic operations
Over the past three nights between October 9 and October 11, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of intensive, nationwide operations aimed at preventing crime, ensuring public order, and improving road safety. These operations involved organized patrols in key urban areas, extensive checks on vehicles and premises, and enforcement of traffic regulations.
The scale and results of the operations evolved over the three days. On October 9, police arrested 5 individuals, inspected 282 drivers and 68 passengers, and issued 260 traffic fines. On October 10, arrests rose to 7, with 699 drivers and 213 passengers checked and 330 traffic fines issued. By October 11, the intensity increased further, resulting in 13 arrests, 700 vehicle checks involving 981 passengers, and 281 traffic violations. Common offenses cited throughout the period included illegal residence, drug possession, drink-driving, theft, and speeding. Additionally, officers impounded 15 vehicles on the final night.
Police stated that these preventative measures and increased visibility are intended to enhance public safety. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that these patrols and targeted checks will continue on a daily basis across the country to maintain public order and deter criminal activity.
