Police conduct nationwide security operations across Cyprus
Overnight on October 9, 2026, the Cyprus Police carried out coordinated security operations across the country, focusing on urban centers to prevent criminal activity and maintain public order. These proactive measures involved checking 282 drivers, 68 passengers, and 43 premises, resulting in one reported violation at a business.
The operation led to the arrest of five individuals for various offenses, including illegal possession of property, possession and use of narcotics, possession of untaxed tobacco products, and assault causing actual bodily harm. Law enforcement authorities issued 260 traffic-related citations, with 82 of these specifically for speeding. Additionally, officers investigated 10 further traffic offenses and seized 10 vehicles.
Regarding substance impairment, 122 alcohol breath tests were conducted, resulting in three citations. Furthermore, three preliminary drug tests returned positive results for narcotics. Police authorities stated that such operations are part of an ongoing effort to suppress crime and enhance public safety throughout the island.
