Cyprus police conduct nationwide anti-crime operations
Overnight on October 9, 2026, the Cyprus Police executed a series of coordinated operations across the country to bolster public safety and prevent criminal activity. These proactive patrols focused on key urban areas and resulted in the arrest of five individuals on charges including illegal possession of property, drug-related offenses, possession of untaxed tobacco products, and assault causing bodily harm.
During the sweep, authorities conducted 282 vehicle stops and inspected 68 passengers, alongside 43 checks of business premises which yielded one formal complaint. Traffic enforcement was a primary component of the operation, resulting in 260 total traffic citations, 82 of which were for speeding. Authorities also impounded 10 vehicles and performed 122 alcohol breath tests, which led to three citations. Additionally, three preliminary drug tests returned positive results, and ten separate traffic-related cases are currently under investigation.
The police stated that these nationwide operations are part of a continuous effort to maintain law and order. Such security measures are planned to continue on a daily basis to suppress criminal behavior and increase the public's sense of security.
