Cyprus Police conduct nationwide security operations
The Cyprus Police carried out intensive, nationwide preventative security operations during the nights of October 9 and October 10, 2026. The initiatives, conducted across key urban locations, aimed to prevent serious criminal activities, maintain public order, and enhance public safety through increased patrols and targeted checks.
During the October 9 operations, five individuals were arrested for offenses including drug possession, theft, and assault. Police stopped 282 drivers, performed 43 inspections of commercial premises, and issued 260 traffic fines, including 82 for speeding. Follow-up operations on October 10 resulted in seven further arrests for charges such as illegal residence, drink-driving, verbal abuse, and theft. In these later checks, officers stopped 699 drivers and 213 passengers, conducted 43 premises inspections leading to six violations, and issued 330 traffic fines. Police also impounded 12 vehicles and performed 224 alcohol tests, recording 10 offenses.
Authorities stated that these preventative operations are ongoing. The police presence will remain increased, with continued targeted checks and rapid responses planned to ensure public safety and ongoing law enforcement across the country.
