Series of serious road traffic accidents reported across Cyprus over the weekend
Cyprus experienced multiple severe road traffic incidents between October 9 and 11, 2026. On Friday morning, a 23-year-old was arrested in Limassol for drunk driving after a crash on Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue left a 27-year-old woman with a broken arm. Later that Friday night, a more serious collision on Omonias Avenue in Limassol involved six people; a 61-year-old woman was intubated and transferred to intensive care with severe injuries, including a subarachnoid hemorrhage, while two other victims were hospitalized in serious condition. This incident prompted an urgent public appeal for blood donations.
On Saturday night, additional accidents were reported. In Nisou, near Nicosia, two drivers were hospitalized following a head-on collision between a commercial vehicle and a pickup truck at the intersection of the old Nicosia–Limassol road and Stasinou Street. Firefighters performed a rescue operation to extract one driver. Separately, in the Paphos district near Tsada, a 20-year-old and a 30-year-old were hospitalized following a head-on collision on the Polis Chrysochous–Paphos road, though both were reported to be out of danger. Police investigations into the causes of these collisions remain ongoing.
