Michalis Vorkas re-elected as President of the Cyprus Bar Association
Michalis Vorkas has announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Cyprus Bar Association and, due to a lack of opposing candidates, is set to be re-elected. Alongside his own candidacy, he named Stefanos Skordis, Nikolas Tsardellis, Michalis Filippou, and Avgerinos Chartziotis as candidates for the four elected council member positions. All four candidates are incumbents who served on the previous board.
The election process will conclude during the regular general assembly of the Cyprus Bar Association, scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 15:00 at the Filoxenia Conference Center in Nicosia. Vorkas used the announcement to reflect on his past three-year term, highlighting significant reforms, including updates to the framework for training new lawyers and the completion of technical-legal reviews for legislation concerning the enforcement of judicial decisions. Furthermore, discussions regarding the restructuring of the Pension Fund have been finalized, with new regulations and necessary technological tools reportedly prepared for implementation.
This leadership transition comes at a time when the association aims to continue the reform momentum established over the last few years. The upcoming general assembly will formalize the board's new composition for the next term.
