Former Justice Minister Emily Yioliti discusses resignation and Cyprus political views
In a recent podcast interview with MEP Fidias Panagiotou, former Minister of Justice Emily Yioliti revealed the reasons behind her resignation from the Anastasiades government. Yioliti claimed she lacked support from the then-President, stating that he told her she was damaging the government's image due to her family connections. She emphasized that she had entered the ministry with integrity, noting that the pressure regarding her reputation led to her departure.
Beyond her resignation, Yioliti addressed significant national issues, expressing opposition to Cyprus using Greece's national anthem. She advocated for a fully independent Cyprus, free from both Greek and Turkish influence. Regarding the Cyprus problem, she stated she would be willing to vote for a Turkish-Cypriot presidential candidate if they were the most qualified individual. She further expressed skepticism toward the current Bizonal Bicommunal Federation framework, arguing that the island should seek solutions without the involvement of guarantor powers like Turkey and Greece.
