Cyprus police conduct island-wide enforcement operations
Between October 7 and October 11, 2026, the Cyprus police conducted a series of targeted overnight operations across the island to crack down on criminal activity and traffic violations. These coordinated efforts resulted in the arrest of 24 individuals for various offenses, including illegal residency, theft, and traffic-related crimes.
During the four-night period, authorities inspected a total of 2,118 vehicles and checked over 2,500 drivers and passengers. Police carried out 149 inspections of various premises, issuing multiple citations. Traffic enforcement was a primary focus, resulting in 1,378 complaints filed for various violations. Notably, speeding accounted for 480 of these citations, while 41 vehicles were impounded. Additionally, officers conducted 704 alcohol tests and six drug tests, identifying several instances of driving under the influence of substances.
The operations were described by police as regular, proactive efforts to maintain public safety and reduce crime. These frequent, targeted enforcement actions serve as part of a broader, ongoing strategy to address illegal residence status and road safety issues across Cyprus. Law enforcement authorities continue to monitor traffic and criminal patterns through these systematic, island-wide checks.
