Police conduct targeted traffic and premises inspections across Cyprus
Cypriot police conducted two separate nights of nationwide operations on October 7 and 8, 2026, leading to a total of ten arrests for various offenses. During the first night of inspections, officers checked 800 individuals and stopped 587 vehicles, issuing 393 traffic citations, including 117 for speeding, and impounding nine vehicles. Parallel checks of 36 premises resulted in a single complaint. Alcohol and drug testing during this phase yielded one positive alcohol result and one negative drug test.
The second night of operations involved checks on 350 individuals and 43 premises. Officers issued 260 traffic citations, 82 of which were for speeding, and impounded ten additional vehicles. This phase resulted in three positive alcohol tests and three positive drug tests. Authorities confirmed that these operations are part of routine, ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and traffic compliance across the island. The police continue to conduct these regular targeted sweeps to address traffic violations and illegal activities in commercial premises, with further enforcement actions expected to follow.
