Private hospitals in Cyprus address operational challenges at annual assembly
The Pancyprian Association of Private Hospitals (PASIN), an affiliate of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), held its annual General Assembly in Nicosia on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The event brought together representatives from the state and healthcare sectors to discuss the mounting pressures facing private medical providers.
Key issues highlighted during the assembly included the urgent need for fair and adequate financial compensation within the General Healthcare System (GesY) to offset rising operational costs, as well as a severe shortage of nursing staff. PASIN President Marios Karaiskakis and OEB President Giorgos Pantelidis emphasized that the long-term viability of private hospitals—a pillar of the national health system—depends on establishing a predictable, competitive framework that ensures equal terms for all providers.
Minister of Health Neofytos Charalambidis attended the meeting and acknowledged the essential role private hospitals play in the economy and patient care. The Minister stressed the importance of maintaining an ongoing institutional dialogue between the Ministry and PASIN to address sector-wide challenges and ensure the continued delivery of safe, quality healthcare services to the public.
