Association of Property Valuers of Cyprus proposes periodic building inspections
During its Annual General Meeting held on October 9, 2026, the Cyprus Association of Property Valuers (SEEAK) presented a series of proposals aimed at improving real estate safety and market efficiency. The event, which hosted over 100 members and professional stakeholders, focused on the critical role of valuers in maintaining financial stability and supporting informed investment decisions.
SEEAK President Polys Kourousidis formally advocated for the introduction of mandatory periodic technical inspections for all buildings, colloquially referred to as a "MOT for buildings," to address the issue of hazardous infrastructure. Furthermore, the association requested increased legal powers for building management committees to ensure effective debt collection and consistent maintenance of common properties.
While acknowledging recent progress made by the Ministry of Interior and Regional Self-Government Organizations in accelerating the issuance of urban planning and building permits, the association emphasized that further simplification and digitalization are necessary. The group continues to push for institutionalized access to official data for licensed valuers to further streamline these processes and bolster housing supply and investment.
