Vehicle registrations in Cyprus show growth in the first nine months of 2026
Data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus indicates that total motor vehicle registrations reached 43,890 in the first nine months of 2026, representing a 9.1% increase compared to the 40,212 registrations recorded during the same period in 2025. Despite this overall growth, a minor downturn was observed in September 2026, with total registrations falling to 5,326, a 3.9% decline from the 5,544 vehicles registered in September 2025.
Saloon car registrations followed a similar trend, rising 9% to 34,156 units for the nine-month period. Used vehicles continue to dominate the market, accounting for 23,635 registrations (69.2%), while new vehicles made up 10,521 (30.8%). A notable shift in consumer preference has emerged toward hybrid technology, which now holds a 53% market share, up from 44% in 2025. Conversely, the market share for gasoline, diesel, and electric-only cars has seen a slight decline. Meanwhile, registrations of rental vehicles dropped significantly by 17.1% to 3,780.
