Travel activity of Cyprus residents increased in 2025
In 2025, travel activity among Cyprus residents continued its upward trajectory, with the total number of trips for personal and business purposes reaching 3,815,322. This marks a 13.3 per cent increase compared to the 3,366,862 trips recorded in 2024, continuing a steady growth pattern observed since 2021.
Across the European Union, residents conducted 1.20 billion trips, reflecting a 1.4 per cent rise from the previous year. Data from Eurostat shows that 92 per cent of these journeys remained within the bloc, with 70 per cent being domestic travel and 22 per cent involving other EU member states. Romania recorded the highest share of domestic travel at 89 per cent, while Luxembourg saw the lowest at 5 per cent.
While domestic trips dominated in volume, EU residents spent significantly more on international travel, totaling 379.4 billion euros compared to 266.2 billion euros for domestic trips. Within domestic travel spending, accommodation accounted for 34 per cent and transport for 21 per cent. This statistical overview highlights a robust recovery and expansion of the European tourism sector following recent years of volatility.
