Man arrested for jewellery store burglary in Famagusta
On October 9, 2026, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Cyprus following his extradition from a European country. He is being investigated for a burglary at a jewellery store in the Famagusta district, which occurred on January 19, 2026, at approximately 3:55 am. During the incident, the store’s alarm system was triggered, but the perpetrators had already fled the scene by the time police arrived. The owner reported the theft of assets, including jewellery and watches, valued at more than €200,000.
Following an assessment of evidence gathered by authorities, both national and European arrest warrants were issued against the suspect. The man was initially located and arrested in a European country on September 10, 2026. After legal proceedings, he was extradited to Cyprus, where he was formally taken into custody upon his arrival. The Famagusta District Court has since ordered his detention for seven days to facilitate the ongoing police investigation.
