UN facilitates preparatory meeting for upcoming Cyprus leadership talks
Representatives from the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides held a preparatory meeting on Friday, October 9, 2026, under the auspices of the UN Good Offices Mission. Menelaos Menelaou, representing the Greek Cypriot side, and Mehmet Dana, representing the Turkish Cypriot leader, convened their respective teams to organize the upcoming high-level meeting. According to the United Nations office in Cyprus, the session was held following instructions from the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus.
The primary focus of this meeting was to establish the framework and agenda for the leaders' meeting scheduled for next week. President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman are set to meet on Tuesday to discuss progress and potential paths forward regarding the Cyprus issue. This preparatory work aims to ensure that the leadership meeting is productive and focused on key outstanding matters.
