Cyprus private pharmacies report cancellation of seasonal flu vaccine orders
On October 9, 2026, private pharmacies in Cyprus were unexpectedly informed that their orders for seasonal flu vaccines would not be fulfilled. These orders had been placed approximately six months prior according to established protocols. The supplier attributed the cancellation to production and planning difficulties arising from the necessary update of all three strains of the flu vaccine for the 2026–2027 season.
This development has caused significant disruption for private sector pharmacists and patients who rely on private vaccination services. Ploutarchos Georgiadis, president of the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association, confirmed the cancellation and stated that the association intends to petition the Ministry of Health to release supplies from the existing national vaccination program.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has announced its own vaccination plan for respiratory viruses, including seasonal flu. While all citizens over six months of age are eligible, the government is prioritizing vulnerable groups and individuals over 60 years old. The association is currently seeking an immediate resolution to ensure vaccine availability for the private sector.
