Cyprus launches national mental health awareness campaign
On Friday, October 9, 2026, the Cyprus Psychiatric Association launched a nationwide mental health awareness campaign titled "Let's Talk Openly" ("As Milisoume Anoikhta"). The initiative, held under the auspices of the Cyprus Medical Association and supported by Medochemie, aims to combat social stigma, dismantle prejudices, and encourage citizens to seek timely professional help for mental health disorders.
During the announcement, representatives highlighted that one in seven people worldwide currently faces a mental health disorder, often without receiving adequate care. The campaign will utilize mass media and social networks to disseminate information, while establishing a new institution of "Mental Health Ambassadors." Furthermore, the president of the association emphasized the urgent need for the full implementation of the National Strategy and warned the public against seeking treatment from unqualified practitioners.
By focusing on the importance of early diagnosis and evidence-based therapy, the campaign seeks to normalize conversations around mental health. It serves as a response to the ongoing challenges where fear of social marginalization prevents individuals from addressing their psychological well-being. The initiative is expected to continue through various informative actions to improve public knowledge and reduce discrimination against those suffering from mental illness.
