Larnaca municipality receives Green Flag award for environmental initiatives
On October 5, 2026, the Municipality of Larnaca was awarded a Green Flag during the 8th Annual Green Cities and Green Communities of Cyprus Awards. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, where President Nikos Christodoulides presented the honors to the winning municipalities and communities.
The award recognizes two key environmental projects in Larnaca: the creation of the Salina Municipal Park in the city center, honored under the "Culture and Environment" category, and the enhancement and expansion of the "Green Beaches" initiative, recognized under the "Green Areas - Urban Biodiversity" category. In addition to these honors, Larnaca was named one of the three finalists for the prestigious Golden Agrino honorary award and the title of Green Capital of Cyprus for 2025.
Local authorities stated that these achievements reflect the municipality's ongoing commitment to improving the urban environment, protecting biodiversity, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The awards ceremony served as a formal acknowledgment of the city's consistent efforts toward sustainable urban development.
