Cypriot delegation addresses OSCE Autumn Meeting in Andorra
The 24th Autumn Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly concluded in Andorra on October 9, 2026. The Cypriot delegation, led by MP Giorgos Koukoumas, addressed the forum on critical regional security issues, including the long-standing Cyprus problem and the conflict in the Middle East.
Regarding the Cyprus issue, Koukoumas emphasized the need to resume negotiations based on the agreed framework for a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality. He highlighted that the Cypriot people have endured the consequences of Turkish occupation for over five decades and cited UN Security Council resolutions that uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus.
In the Mediterranean Forum segment of the meeting, Koukoumas also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank. He criticized ongoing actions, stating that humanitarian aid cannot replace a necessary political solution. He called for an end to the Israeli occupation and the settlement policy, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. The delegation further discussed the broader regional instability, including conflicts involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran, stressing the importance of consistent international commitment to multilateralism.
