APOEL and AEL secure narrow victories in the fifth round of Cyprus League

On October 10 and 11, 2026, APOEL and AEL secured dramatic 2-1 victories during the fifth round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan. APOEL faced Nea Salamina at the GSP Stadium, where an injury-time goal by Dalsio in the 91st minute broke the deadlock. APOEL had initially taken the lead via a Pedroso penalty in the 22nd minute, but Nea Salamina equalized through Aldair in the 53rd minute. Assistant coach Nikos Karampetakis, filling in for the suspended head coach Nikos Papadopoulos, dedicated the victory to a young fan named Aris who passed away.

Simultaneously, AEL maintained its top position in the league standings with a 12-point tally after defeating Omonia 29M. Zair Tavares opened the scoring for AEL in the 59th minute, and despite a competitive response from the visitors, Oden secured the win with a decisive late goal. AEL’s result marks their fourth victory in five matches, solidifying their status as early contenders. Both matches highlighted the competitiveness of the league, with both home teams relying on late-game intensity to overcome resilient opponents and maintain their respective championship objectives.
