Cyprus meteorological service issues orange weather warning for severe storms
The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued an orange weather warning due to an incoming low-pressure system moving from the Ionian Sea. The warning is in effect from 19:00 on Wednesday, October 14, until 05:00 on Thursday morning. Authorities predict that this weather front will bring heavy rainfall, with intensity expected to reach 55 to 70 millimeters per hour, along with strong wind gusts and localized hail across the island.
Meteorologists warn that the adverse weather will start in the western regions, particularly affecting Paphos and Limassol, before spreading across the island. The system is expected to cause intense and prolonged phenomena, increasing the risk of localized flooding in 18 identified high-risk areas. Temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius as the weather system transitions, with the mercury reaching approximately 26-27°C in lowland areas and around 10-17°C in the mountains. Civil defense units are on high alert, and officials have cautioned residents to take necessary safety measures during the storm's duration.
