Unsettled weather and rain forecast for Cyprus
Cyprus is set to experience a period of unsettled weather, with the Department of Meteorology forecasting isolated showers and thunderstorms starting from Sunday. While the island remains under the influence of a weak low-pressure system, meteorological data indicates that conditions will become more significant by Wednesday afternoon. A low-pressure system originating from the Adriatic Sea is expected to track towards the island, bringing more widespread rain from the west that will affect Paphos before spreading across Cyprus through Friday.
Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 32°C inland and 28-30°C along the coast at the start of the week. However, a gradual decline in temperatures is anticipated starting Monday, with readings expected to fall below seasonal averages by Thursday. Dust remains present in the atmosphere at times. While initial activity will be concentrated in the Troodos mountains, Nicosia, and northern regions, the system approaching on Wednesday will lead to heavier cloud cover and more sustained precipitation.
This week’s unsettled pattern follows an uncharacteristically wet season for the island, which saw August record its highest rainfall since 1902. Authorities continue to monitor the atmospheric conditions as the new system moves from the southern Aegean, with no further warnings or emergency measures currently announced beyond standard meteorological updates.
