Giorgos Pamboridis launches presidential campaign bid within DISY
Giorgos Pamboridis has officially stepped up his bid for the Democratic Rally (DISY) nomination for the 2028 presidential elections by launching an online platform to collect public endorsements. This digital initiative aims to gauge the support base and demonstrate his momentum ahead of the party's internal electoral procedures.
In a significant political development, Michalis Ioannidis, coordinator of the party's Government Work Monitoring Council, publicly endorsed Pamboridis for the nomination. In an interview with Kathimerini, Ioannidis justified his support by citing a shared reformist vision and a clear anti-populist stance, while noting that this is his personal position. Although he previously worked closely with Annita Demetriou, he labeled Pamboridis's criticisms of the party leadership as constructive, while criticizing Averof Neofytou’s rhetoric as counterproductive. Ioannidis confirmed he would respect the ultimate party decision should Neofytou win the nomination.
Pamboridis has expressed gratitude for the endorsement, emphasizing his commitment to uniting the party base. The developments highlight the ongoing internal dynamics and coalition-building efforts within DISY as the party prepares for its critical internal selection process.
