Government investments in rural development and heritage restoration in Cyprus
Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou recently announced major infrastructure and restoration projects in Kyperounta and Akaki, highlighting the government’s commitment to rural revitalization. In Kyperounta, road upgrades in the old neighborhood were completed last month at a cost of €462,000. Additionally, a cultural activities building worth €1.72 million has been developed, and a Folk Art and Natural History Museum with guest houses is under construction, with an estimated budget of €2.5 million. The total investment in the community is expected to reach €4.7 million.
Simultaneously, the restoration of the Iakovidis watermill in Akaki was unveiled on Sunday. The project, which cost over €767,000, involved converting the historic site into a modern facility featuring event halls, exhibition spaces, and a café, with work conducted between November 2022 and January 2024. Furthermore, the Nicosia District Administration will allocate €50,000 from savings to the Akaki Community Council for future local interventions. These initiatives aim to preserve the traditional character of rural areas while improving the quality of life for residents.
