Investigation follows 20-year-old woman's death after MDMA use in Thessaloniki
A 20-year-old woman died on October 10, 2026, after consuming MDMA, also known as ecstasy, during an electronic music event at a venue in eastern Thessaloniki. The young woman lost consciousness and was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old male friend of the deceased, who is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, fatal exposure, and violations of drug control laws.
Police are currently searching for an unidentified individual who reportedly supplied the narcotics to the two friends. The victim's father, Kostas Adam, has publicly expressed his grief and vowed to cooperate with authorities to identify the dealer, noting that this is not the first time the suspect has been involved in a medical emergency related to substance use. He expressed hope that his daughter would be the last victim of such incidents.
A forensic examination is scheduled to determine the exact circumstances of the death, with the family appointing a technical consultant to oversee the process. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare to address the legal culpability of those involved in the supply chain of the illicit substances.
