Nicosia police investigate brutal group assault on teenager in Latsia

A 16-year-old boy was subjected to a brutal group assault in Latsia, Nicosia, on the evening of Friday, October 9, 2026. The incident, which was recorded on video by bystanders and subsequently circulated on social media, shows the teenager being repeatedly kicked and beaten while on the ground. The victim sustained injuries including a broken nose, bruises, and contusions, for which he was treated at a hospital before being discharged.

The victim's father filed an official report with the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) on Sunday evening. The police are currently analyzing the viral footage and additional closed-circuit recordings to identify the assailants, who are estimated to be between 14 and 17 years old. While initial reports were contradictory regarding the exact ages of the attackers, authorities have launched a formal investigation into charges including conspiracy to commit a crime and assault.

The investigation was sparked by personal differences allegedly involving a girl. On Monday, the teenager provided a statement to investigators lasting over two hours, with his guardians and legal counsel present. Police sources indicate that at least three arrest warrants are expected to be issued imminently as the investigation into the perpetrators continues under protocols for minors in conflict with the law.
