Seven arrested following brutal beating of teenager in Latsia

On the evening of Friday, October 9, 2026, a 16-year-old boy was subjected to a violent attack by a group of youths in the Latsia area of Nicosia. The incident, which was captured on video and circulated on social media, shows the victim being repeatedly beaten while onlookers filmed the assault without intervening. The teenager suffered a fractured nose, along with facial swelling and bruising. Authorities noted that the attack reportedly stemmed from personal disputes involving a female.

Following an official complaint filed by the victim’s family on October 11, the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched an investigation. By Tuesday, October 13, police executed court warrants to arrest seven suspects, aged between 14 and 21. The group includes one adult and six minors. All arrests were carried out in accordance with protocols for children in conflict with the law, with guardians and legal representatives present. The suspects face charges related to assault and bodily harm and were scheduled to appear before the Nicosia District Court on Wednesday to face detention requests. Investigators continue to analyze video footage and are seeking to identify the person responsible for recording the incident, with the possibility of further arrests remaining open.
