Customs authorities seize illicit nutritional supplements at Limassol port
On September 30, 2026, officials from the Limassol Customs Department intercepted a shipment of nutritional supplements and energy drinks at the Limassol port. The goods, which arrived in a consolidated container from Greece, were falsely declared as clothing in the accompanying shipping documents.
Customs officers discovered the discrepancy during routine container inspections assisted by drug-detection dogs. The imported products lacked the mandatory permits required for importation, marketing, and distribution in Cyprus. Consequently, the authorities seized the entire pallet of goods due to the false declaration. The case is currently under further investigation in cooperation with the relevant services of the Ministry of Health to identify those responsible and determine the origin of the items.
Separately, in an unrelated incident on October 8, 2026, customs authorities in Larnaca seized a large quantity of untaxed tobacco products, including cigarettes, heated tobacco, and rolling tobacco, from the residence of a 52-year-old Greek Cypriot. That suspect was initially arrested but was subsequently released after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement for the offenses.
